Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.
Gelco Chimney Cleaning in Yonkers, NY | Hadley Chimney Yonkers
We provide independent Gelco chimney cleaning and repair across Yonkers, from Park Hill to Getty Square and every hillside block in between. The one thing that makes our Gelco work different here is that we actually understand the coal-era flues, party walls, and steep rooflines these liners get installed into. Call (914) 233-3156 and you’ll reach a live person who can talk Gelco liners, creosote, and Yonkers chimneys without reading from a script.
Hadley Chimney Yonkers is an independent service provider. We are not manufacturer-affiliated or authorized by Gelco, but our techs work with these systems every week. That means honest assessments, genuine parts where it counts, and aftermarket options when a full replacement makes more financial sense for you.
Why Yonkers Residents Choose Us for Gelco Service
Gelco liners show up in a lot of Yonkers homes because they’re durable, UL-listed, and priced reasonably for pre-war housing stock. But a liner is only as good as the install, and a lot of the Gelco systems we inspect in this city were put in decades ago through flues that were never designed for stainless steel.
Cory Mitchell, who owns Hadley Chimney Yonkers, picked up his trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College before heading east and spending years on Yonkers rooftops, looking down flues most people don’t even know exist. “If I wouldn’t leave it on my own fireplace, I’m not leaving it on yours.” That’s the standard we work to, whether we’re providing a Chimney Sweep in Yonkers to clear creosote (the flammable tar buildup that makes chimneys a fire risk) or pulling a failed Gelco liner out of a three-story walk-up.
We’re local to the market. We answer the phone. We show up in a tracked window with live arrival updates, and we send photos of what we find, not just a bill. Yonkers homeowners see the same visibility from us they get from a rideshare app, and that’s how it should work. For more about our broader chimney work, see our Yonkers service area page.

Common Gelco Chimney Cleaning Problems We Solve in Yonkers
Yonkers has an unusually high concentration of original masonry chimneys, and a lot of them have Gelco liners working harder than they should have to. Here is what we run into most:
- Kinked Gelco single-ply flex liner in tight coal-era flues. Park Hill three-story walk-ups often have 45-degree offsets that were built for coal smoke, not smooth stainless runs. The flex liner kinks at that bend, creosote collects behind it, and your draft drops fast.
- Rusted Gelco cap seams near the Hudson. Homes close to Getty Square sit in that damp river air. Condensation traps soot at the cap, and we’ve pulled caps off that crumbled at the seam. Cap failure lets rain in, which turns creosote acidic and eats the liner from the inside.
- Spalling Gelco crown-coat at mortar joints. North-facing chimneys in Yonkers take repeated freeze-thaw cycles all winter. Water soaks into the crown, freezes, and pops the mortar coating loose. Left alone, it works down to the brick.
- Insufficient liner-to-flue-tile clearance. Older Yonkers row houses often have flue tiles barely wider than the liner itself. When clearance is too tight behind the liner, creosote builds in that void space, and sweeping alone won’t get it out.
- Multiple flues with mixed usage. Pre-WWII Yonkers homes often have a furnace flue and a fireplace flue side by side. One gets used, one doesn’t. The seldom-used Gelco liner accumulates whitish, crusty buildup that hardens and becomes a real project to remove.
Gelco Service in Yonkers: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment
Here’s what we see in Yonkers more than anywhere else we work: pre-WWII row houses with Gelco flex liners pulled through coal-era flues that have hard 45-degree offsets. The tight clearances mean our techs have to use ovalized Gelco liner or custom pull cones in Park Hill and Getty Square to make the run work, because a round liner simply won’t pull through that bend without collapsing. Unlike Mount Vernon or Bronxville, where the flues tend to run straighter and newer housing doesn’t have coal-era geometry, Yonkers forces us to plan every liner job around the offsets.
We ran into exactly this on a three-story walk-up near Getty Square. The original Gelco flex liner had kinked at the 45-degree offset from the old coal flue, and that kink created a creosote trap that filled the smoke chamber. The top-floor unit was getting smoke backing in every time they lit a fire. We cut out the damaged section, pulled a new Gelco ovalized 316Ti liner through the bend, and replaced the rusted Gelco cap with a stainless multi-flue version. Full draft restored, smoke gone. That’s a Yonkers-specific fix, not something you’d see in the flat suburbs.
We’re part of the Relay Home Co. family and work under The Relay Visibility Guarantee, so every Gelco job includes live arrival tracking, before-and-after photo documentation, and a written price before any work begins. If you’re curious how that applies to Gelco sales & service, we explain it in detail there.
Gelco Models & Products We Service in Yonkers
We work on the full Gelco range you’ll find in Yonkers:
- Gelco 300-Series rigid stainless liner
- Gelco Flex-Liner (single-ply corrugated)
- Gelco 316Ti alloy liner for gas and oil appliances
- Gelco ovalized flex liner for narrow flues
For parts, we stock genuine Gelco termination caps, clamps, and connector hardware so UL-listed repairs stay UL-listed. But when a full replacement is the smarter play, we use quality aftermarket 316Ti flex liner and mortar. A Gelco liner that is over 15 years old with multiple perforations or severe kinks gets a full relining, not a patch. Chasing isolated holes in a failing liner is money down the flue.

AfterGelco Service Pricing in Yonkers
Our Chimney Repair in Yonkers and sweep services typically run $180 to $340 for a standard cleaning, depending on the liner type and its condition. Level 2 inspections start around $250 to $450, and become mandatory when you’ve had a chimney fire, a change in appliance type, or you just bought the house. Stainless steel relining with 316Ti liner varies much more, usually $2,500 to $6,000 depending on flue length, access, and whether we’re dealing with the tight Yonkers offsets we described above.
What drives the price: the flue’s height and access, how old the existing Gelco liner is, and whether we need ovalized liner to clear a 45-degree bend. Every estimate includes a camera inspection so you see what we see, a written price before the brush touches your chimney, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If a repair fails within a year, the second visit is free.
Call (914) 233-3156 for an exact quote, and we’ll have someone out with a camera in hand. Estimates are free.

FAQs – Gelco Chimney Cleaning in Yonkers
How do Yonkers inspectors verify a Gelco flex liner in a coal-era chimney without tearing open the partition wall?
We use a Level 2 camera inspection run down the full flue from the top, plus access through the firebox below. In a Yonkers row house with a shared party wall, we can see the liner’s interior, the joints, and any kinks or gaps without opening up masonry. If the inspection shows the liner was ovalized to fit a narrow offset, we document that in the photo report so you have a record for insurance or resale. Call (914) 233-3156 to schedule and we’ll walk you through what the camera shows.
Can a Gelco single-ply flex liner be repaired if it is kinked inside a 1920s Yonkers flue with a 45-degree offset?
Sometimes, but not usually. A single-ply liner that has creased sharply at an offset has lost its structural integrity at that point. Patching it with a connector band can restore a short leak, but a severe kink is a failure mode we recommend replacing, not bandaging. The fix matters because that kink is exactly where creosote accumulates fastest in Yonkers’ tight coal-era flues. Call (914) 233-3156 if you’re seeing smoke backup or weak draft, and we’ll give you an honest assessment with a written quote.
Why does a Gelco chimney cap rust out faster on Yonkers homes near the Hudson than on inland homes?
You’re right to notice it. The damp river air near the Hudson carries more moisture, and that condensation settles at the cap, where cold air hits warm flue gas. Soot and water mixed together create a mildly acidic slurry that eats through cap seams. Homes around Getty Square and the lower watershed get this worse than Yonkers homes up the hill. A stainless multi-flue cap holds up much better in this microclimate than standard galvanized. Call (914) 233-3156 if your cap looks rusted or if you’re finding flakes of metal on the roof below it.
Is creosote buildup worse in Gelco liners on Yonkers’ humid summer weekends if the fireplace is never used?
Yes. A fireplace that sits unused through a humid Yonkers summer builds what we call stage three creosote, a hard, glossy, tar-like layer that bonds to the liner wall. Gelco liners aren’t unique in this, but the single-ply corrugated surface gives creosote more little ridges to grab onto. A liner that was cleaned last year can cake up significantly over one humid summer. If you haven’t used the fireplace since last season, get it swept before the first fire. Call (914) 233-3156 and we’ll get you on the schedule.
Can you reline a narrow coal-era flue in a Getty Square three-story walk-up with Gelco liner without removing the original clay tiles?
Usually yes. We can pull a Gelco ovalized flex liner through the existing clay tile flue if the tile interior is intact and the clearances can accommodate the liner diameter. In many Getty Square walk-ups, the original clay is cracked or misaligned, which is another reason the old liner failed. If the tile is beyond salvage, we remove it with a tile breaker before pulling the new liner. Our camera inspection shows us exactly what we’re working with. Call (914) 233-3156 to set up the inspection.
